The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
